As an English instructor at the University of Paris 1, Pantheon-Sorbonne, I have been able to develop practices that are best adapted for the students, and within the framework of the institutional objectives. For example, four of my five classes this year were exclusively for masters students from Institut de Recherche et d'Etudes Supérieures du Tourisme (IREST), and for which I was asked to center the English lesson topics around the subject of tourism. Furthermore, in my fifth class, which consisted of students from a diversity of bachelor's degrees, I conducted a survey to find out what topics of interest were most useful for them. In doing so, I was able to merge the students' desires and expectations, with that of the university to meet the collective language learning objectives. Cultivating a classroom environment that is comfortable and engaging for the specific group of students involved is key to ensuring a quality experience for all.
In addition to being an English instructor, I am a doctoral student in Geography at the University of Paris 1, Pantheon-Sorbonne. My research is focused on cultural heritage, tourist imaginaries, and urban development, in the Parisien neighborhood of Pigalle. This research is building off of the work I did in 2020 and 2021 as a part of my Master's Degree in International Tourism Management at the University of Paris 1, Pantheon-Sorbonne. In conjunction with this, I have completed a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, concentrating in Media and Technology, and a double minor in Entrepreneurship and Social and Economic Justice. This diversity of academic studies has instilled in me a particular lens on the ever-globalizing world in which we live. In my future career in the academic field, I seek to bring an innovative and entrepreneurial mind to create paths toward greater connection and understanding in our societies. Being a language teacher in an international context allows me the opportunity to aid English learners in their efforts to not only learn a new skill but also to expand their accessibility to the world around them.
